Reborn: I Will Never Be a Stepfather Again

Chen Sihai lies dying in a hospital bed. His daughter Qianqian arrives not to visit, but to formally sever their father-daughter relationship while he is still alive. She denounces him for neglecting her in favor of the widow Qin Huairu and her two sons. Outside the room, Qin Huairu's family schemes to avoid paying for his surgery.

Chen Sihai is reborn in 1994 and finds young Qianqian frightened and hungry. Overcome with remorse for his past neglect, he swears to live only for his daughter in this life. He immediately sets out to get her fried chicken.

Chen Sihai buys a chicken to nourish Qianqian, but the butcher publicly mocks him as a fool who neglects his own daughter to raise a widow's two sons. A neighbor spots him carrying the chicken home and immediately tips off Qin Huairu, hinting that her sons are in for a treat.

Qin Huairu's mother-in-law takes Dahu and Erhu to eat chicken at Chen Sihai's house, while Qin Huairu excuses herself to see a movie with Li Chenggang. Neighbors gossip about the situation, feeling sorry for Chen Sihai and questioning why he pursues a widow with two sons.

Chen Sihai apologizes to his daughter Qianqian, promising to love her forever. They make a pinky swear. He carries her on his back and offers her two chicken legs, reminding her to wash her hands first. Qianqian reveals it is her birthday, catching Chen Sihai by surprise.

Chen Sihai berates himself for forgetting Qianqian's birthday and rushes off to buy a cake. Qianqian, content with chicken legs, urges him not to spend money and insists on waiting for him to eat together. He silently vows to cherish only her this life, while Qin Huairu grows suspicious and takes Dahu and Erhu to eat chicken.

Qianqian insists on waiting for her father to eat the roast chicken together. Qin Huairu barges in with Dahu and Erhu, scolds Qianqian as worthless, and claims the chicken belongs to her grandsons. Qianqian desperately guards the plate.

Chen Sihai carries a cake home and tells neighbor Uncle Zhang that it is Qianqian's birthday. Uncle Zhang is relieved to see him come to his senses, and Chen Sihai vows not to be foolish again. When he arrives home, he finds Qianqian on the floor crying that someone snatched what her father made and hit her.
