The Double Life of the Huo Family's Young Madam

Hiding her true medical skill, Jiang Yulan is welcomed back into the Gu family as the long-lost granddaughter, embraced by her grandparents but subtly mocked by adopted daughter Gu Nuan for her rural upbringing. The same day, Huo Yuan climbs the mountain seeking the legendary Sanshui Divine Doctor to save his dying father, setting the stage for the two families' paths to cross.

Welcomed back into the Gu family, Jiang Yulan is pressed by the elders to take the Gu surname, but she insists on keeping the name given by her late adoptive mother. The matriarch, displeased, has her moved to a side courtyard and sends an attendant to lecture her on etiquette, whom Jiang Yulan promptly dismisses, while Gu Nuan looks on with quiet mockery.

Gu Nuan forces Jiang Yulan to accept her prized jade pendant in front of the family, then twists the story when speaking to her brother, claiming she was bullied by the newly returned Jiang Yulan. Believing her, the brother grows furious and vows to teach Jiang Yulan a lesson.

Old Master Gu refuses to let Jiang Yulan transfer to the top school, accusing her of trying to use the family's influence instead of earning it. Her brother then arrives and falsely claims she seized Gu Nuan's cherished birthday jade Buddha. Believing him, Old Master Gu confronts Jiang Yulan and scolds her for acting entitled.

Old Master Gu scolds Jiang Yulan again over the missing jade Buddha, while Gu Nuan pretends to generously offer to give it to her. Old Madam Gu intervenes, revealing that Jiang Yulan had already entrusted her with the jade Buddha the day before, exposing Gu Nuan's scheme in front of the family.

Gu Nuan tries to spin the jade Buddha incident into a show of generosity, but someone repeats her own words back to her word for word, exposing the lie. Forced into a public apology to Jiang Yulan, she offers to return the jade Buddha—only to have it flatly refused.

Jiang Yulan's measured response to the jade Buddha affair becomes a test of the Gu family's loyalty. Old Madam Gu publicly punishes Gu Nuan with laps and copying family rules, then orders her grandson to treat his sister fairly. She announces that Jiang Yulan will finally receive the company shares owed to her after eighteen lost years.

The Gu family formally presents Jiang Yulan with eighteen years of missed gifts, a black card, and company shares as compensation. In return, she gives her grandparents pills made by the Sanshui Divine Doctor, quietly hinting at a secret only she knows.

The pills Jiang Yulan offered are confirmed as genuine medicine from the legendary Sanshui Divine Doctor, prompting Old Master Gu to publicly name her the family's fifth young lady and order everyone to stop mistreating her. Gu Nuan instead tells her mother that Jiang Yulan threatened her, pushing the family to plan a visit to the Huo household to reclaim the engagement for Gu Nuan.

Huo Yuan sidesteps the Gu family's visit about Huo Sili's engagement, taking his father away instead. Old Master Gu showers Jiang Yulan with gifts and affection, deepening Gu Nuan's resentment. When the Gu family later calls on the Huo household, Mu Xueqing greets them warmly, fussing mainly over Gu Nuan.

The Gu family visits the Huo household to discuss the betrothal, but Jiang Yulan is left waiting outside while Huo Yuan mocks the household's hypocrisy before leaving with his father. The Gu family then proposes shifting the engagement from Yulan to Gu Nuan, citing Yulan's rural upbringing. Huo Sili openly scorns Yulan, declaring her unworthy of him.

Huo Sili humiliates Jiang Yulan in front of Gu Nuan, who seizes the chance to claim him for herself. Stung by the insult, Yulan vows to persuade the ailing Old Master Huo to cancel the engagement within three days, while Huo Zhenhua and Mu Xueqing wait to see how Huo Yuan will handle Sili's outburst.

Jiang Yulan quietly treats the confused, dying Old Master Huo with bitter medicine and acupuncture, enduring his scolding without complaint. He warms to her and vows to have Huo Sili marry her, but after her treatment his condition suddenly improves, leaving the family wondering if the legendary Sanshui Divine Doctor has secretly intervened.

Jiang Yulan asks Old Master Huo to dissolve her engagement to Huo Sili, who clearly has no feelings for her. He agrees to end that match but insists she still belongs to the Huo family, hinting his second son Huo Yuan would suit her better. He then orders Huo Yuan to go to the Gu family the next day to formally break off the engagement.

Jiang Yulan treats Old Master Huo and reveals his illness stems from long-term, deliberate feeding of spoiled food, hinting at a plot within the Huo family. Her precise diagnosis stuns Huo Yuan, who begins to suspect she is the legendary Sanshui Divine Doctor, complicating the engagement he came to break off.

Huo Yuan digs into Jiang Yulan's mysterious past and suspects a tie to the legendary Sanshui doctor, but the trail runs cold. Old Master Huo refuses to let her leave the family and pushes Huo Yuan to court her instead. Back at the Gu family, her failed attempt to break off the engagement draws new blame.

Huo Sili delivers the written annulment of Jiang Yulan's engagement to Huo Yuan, prompting suspicion that Old Master Huo's consent was not fully lucid. Despite the doubts, Old Master Huo sends a jade worth five hundred million as compensation and invites Jiang Yulan to dine, showing unexpected favor toward her.

Huo Yuan personally delivers a gift to Jiang Yulan and reveals that the person behind Old Master Huo's poisoning has been traced, noting his own mother died under eerily similar circumstances two years earlier. He proposes an alliance: a fake engagement in exchange for protecting the Gu family, leaving both of them to size each other up.

Huo Yuan offers Jiang Yulan a fake engagement in exchange for protecting her and Old Master Huo, dangling Huo family shares as an incentive while she weighs her answer. Gu Nuan sneers that Jiang Yulan is an unworthy country outsider unfit to attend her school, but Jiang Yulan responds by enrolling there that very day.

Jiang Yulan and Huo Yuan settle three conditions for their fake engagement, including a one-year limit and no interference in her personal life. As he drives her home, Gu Nuan and Huo Sili appear and spot them together. Gu Nuan mocks Yulan for going out with an unknown man on her first day at the new school, claiming it shames the Gu family.

Huo Sili mocks Jiang Yulan for her evening outing and threatens to report her to Old Master Gu. Huo Yuan offers to explain the engagement himself, but Yulan refuses, agreeing to announce it only once Old Master Huo is discharged. Back home, Gu Nuan confronts her and threatens to have her sent back to Jiangcheng.

Gu Nuan publicly accuses Jiang Yulan of riding with a strange man at night, but Old Madam Gu scolds her and forces an apology. Old Master Gu announces a banquet to formally welcome Yulan back into the family, dashing Gu Nuan's hope that her own engagement to Huo Sili will be announced instead. When invited to prepare dresses together, Yulan declines and insists on arranging her own attire.

At the Gu family's banquet welcoming her back, Jiang Yulan appears in an extravagant custom gown that outshines Gu Nuan and sets guests talking about the legendary Sanshui Divine Doctor's famed pills. Old Master Gu quietly shields her secret, while Huo Sili publicly announces his engagement to Gu Nuan and mocks Yulan's countryside background, sparking a confrontation that draws in Gu Beiye.

After the banquet, Gu Nuan offers Jiang Yulan a cup of juice as a fake apology, but Yulan senses something is wrong and refuses to drink it, narrowly avoiding a poisoning attempt. Meanwhile, Ji Yunhe, heir to a declining Chinese-medicine family, approaches Yulan and begins a friendly conversation.

At the Gu family banquet, Chen Wan collapses after drinking a poisoned juice, vomiting blood within minutes while the Chen family accuses the Gu family of attempted murder. Pressured to save her, Ji Yunhe admits that despite her lineage, she is the least gifted healer in her family and cannot cure the poisoning.

As Chen Wan's life hangs in the balance, Jiang Yulan secretly treats her with an exacting eighty-one-needle technique, identifying the poison as a rare five-poison toxin while asking to be shielded from view. Once the poison fully clears, the Gu family issues a public apology and vows to hunt down the poisoner for the Chen family.

The Gu family publicly thanks the Ji family for saving Chen Wan, vowing never to forget the favor. Onlookers marvel at Ji Yunhe's skill, speculating she might be the legendary Sanshui Divine Doctor who alone could cure such poison. But once awake, Chen Wan recognizes the voice that truly guided her treatment as Jiang Yulan's.

Ji Yunhe realizes Jiang Yulan secretly guided the rescue and begs to become her disciple, but Yulan deflects and lets Ji Yunhe keep the public credit. At the banquet, Huo Yuan notices gaps in Ji Yunhe's needlework and suspects she had help, pressing Jiang Yulan directly to report any news of the Sanshui Divine Doctor's whereabouts to him.

Huo Yuan drives Jiang Yulan home after she is left alone at the banquet, his concern deepening. Back at the Gu estate, suspicion grows that Gu Nuan and Ji Yunhe staged Chen Wan's poisoning to boost the Ji family's reputation, sparking a sibling dispute. Furious, Gu Nuan turns the accusation around, vowing to have Jiang Yulan thrown out of the Gu family.

Gu Beiye confronts Jiang Yulan over suspicions she helped poison Chen Wan, but she counters that the drink was actually prepared by Gu Nuan for her. When Gu Nuan taunts her for having no surveillance proof, Jiang Yulan calmly claims she can recover the deleted footage, catching Gu Nuan off guard.

Gu Beiye presents recovered surveillance footage proving Gu Nuan handed over the poisoned drink, though she insists it was unintentional and apologizes to Jiang Yulan. Gu Beiye vows to investigate, but Jiang Yulan calmly brushes it off, saying she was never poisoned. Huo Yuan then invites her to dinner to mark Old Master Huo's discharge from the hospital.

Huo Yuan dresses up and cooks a meal to welcome Jiang Yulan, brushing off a friend's teasing that he is just an old man chasing a younger woman and insisting their engagement is only for show. When she arrives, she openly appraises his physique, and he hints that dinner comes with an unexpected surprise.

Huo Yuan and his father plan to formally propose to the Gu family the next day, and he has a ring made for Jiang Yulan to try on before tending to a small injury of hers. When Gu Nuan learns Huo Yuan personally escorted Jiang Yulan home, she suspects the proposal may really be aimed at her and Huo Sili.

The Gu family resolves to compensate Jiang Yulan for past mistreatment, letting her pick a gift with the matriarch. Gu Nuan hears that Old Master Huo has recovered and plans to visit, and assumes the proposal is meant for her and Huo Sili. When Old Master Huo arrives with Huo Yuan and announces he has come to propose, her assumption is immediately proven wrong.

Old Master Huo arrives in person with company shares, a huge cash dowry, and property as betrothal gifts. Gu Nuan assumes the grand gesture is for her engagement to Huo Sili, but Old Master Huo announces the gifts are all meant for Jiang Yulan instead.

Gu Nuan confronts Huo Yuan and realizes the lavish betrothal gifts were never meant for her, and she is quietly told to leave. The Gu and Huo elders press on with the engagement talks, with Old Master Gu warning that Huo Yuan once maimed a man after an assassination attempt. Jiang Yulan admits she investigated the incident herself and openly agrees to the match.

Huo Zhenhua publicly challenges his father's decision to give Huo Yuan shares and money to marry Jiang Yulan, mocking his brother in the process. Furious, Old Master Huo takes the chairman's seat himself and orders both sons to run separate branches, with the winner reaching a hundred billion first inheriting the company, while the loser must leave the country forever.

Special police show up at the Gu estate, sparking gossip among onlookers about Jiang Yulan's mysterious past. Zhan Wu tracks her down, revealing she once saved his grandfather Zhan Tianhe on the battlefield. Yet she insists on staying hidden, choosing to live quietly as an ordinary person within the Gu family.

Jiang Yulan visits the injured Zhan Tianhe, bringing medicine for his fractured leg and catching up with Zhan Wu, who gives her a special Zhan family badge to use in emergencies. She reaffirms her mother's wish that she live as an ordinary person. Afterward, Old Madam Gu summons her, and the household worries the earlier police visit could damage the family's reputation and jeopardize her engagement to Huo Yuan.

Old Madam Gu confronts Jiang Yulan about being taken by special police, and Jiang Yulan proves her ties to the Zhan family by showing a badge Zhan Wu gave her. Impressed, Old Madam Gu praises her composure and gifts her a bracelet, urging her to stay close to the Zhan family for the Gu family's benefit. Gu Nuan outwardly defends her sister to quiet rumors, while secretly plotting to keep the families apart.

Old Madam Gu introduces Yulan to her returning brother Gu Nanjun, while Gu Nuan hints that Yulan keeps competing with her. When Yulan mentions visiting Zhan Tianhe, Old Madam Gu uses the moment to prove Yulan's ties to the Zhan family to a skeptical Gu Nanjun, then sends him along to fetch gifts.

Gu Nuan hints that Jiang Yulan is using the Zhan family to climb higher, but Yulan insists she relies on no one. When they arrive to see Zhan Tianhe, the retired general personally comes out to receive them and meets Gu Nanjun, leaving others to wonder how close Yulan's ties to the Zhan family really are.

Jiang Yulan plays chess with retired general Zhan Tianhe and holds her own, then jokingly has him serve her tea after winning, even teased as a princess. The general dotes on her openly, refusing to let anyone impose rules on her, deepening others' curiosity about her ties to the Zhan family before he invites Gu Nanjun to play next.

Gu Nanjun thanks Jiang Yulan for her introduction to General Zhan and admits he once misjudged her. Huo Yuan then brings her to a friends' gathering, publicly presenting her as his fiancee to avoid being targeted by schemers. His friends greet her as sister-in-law and jokingly insist on toasting her with wine.

At a friends' gathering, guests gossip about the legendary Sanshui Divine Doctor, recalling how Ji Yunhe was once suspected but showed no reaction when questioned. Huo Yuan presses Jiang Yulan about her whereabouts five years ago, asking if she ever went abroad. She deflects, claiming she had no money, and he sends her home still uncertain about who she really is.

A flashback reveals Jiang Yulan's late mother urging her to hide her identity and live as an ordinary person. In the present, the Sanshui Divine Doctor's account is suddenly deleted, leaving Huo Yuan suspicious about the timing. As the family makes weekend plans, Yulan deflects his invitation, claiming she must visit a friend's medicinal field.

As Yulan prepares to visit a friend, Gu Nuan interrupts and insists Huo Yuan drive her instead, trying to compete for attention. Old Madam Gu scolds Gu Nuan for being unreasonable, and Huo Yuan offers to drive Yulan himself, warning her to take a stand if Gu Nuan keeps acting this way.

A gang hijacks a driver and flees, with police racing to catch their leader. Huo Yuan puts Yulan in his bulletproof car, warning her never to get out, then drives off alone to pursue the escaping taxi.

A fleeing man is shot through the heart and should be dead, leaving everyone stunned by the precision of the shot. Huo Yuan traces it back to Yulan, who reveals General Zhan taught her to shoot. More startling still, the wounded man clings to life, hinting again at Yulan's extraordinary medical skill.

Huo Yuan gives Jiang Yulan a special gift, prompting Gu Nuan to complain she is being neglected and demand the same treatment. Huo Yuan firmly sides with Yulan, leaving Gu Nuan resentful. Meanwhile, an unseen figure vows to stop Yulan from gaining further ground within the Huo family.

Gu Beiye attends a business banquet with Gu Nuan, while Jiang Yulan stays home reading. Gu Nuan secretly schemes to have Huo Yuan sleep with another woman, hoping to humiliate Yulan and force her to make Yulan witness her fiance's betrayal with her own eyes.

Someone schemes to drug Huo Yuan unconscious with a scented spray, hoping to replace Jiang Yulan as his future wife. At the banquet, a woman confesses her feelings to Huo Yuan, insisting she is no worse than the countryside woman he favors. Unaware of the plot, Huo Yuan only wants to finish his business and leave with Yulan.

Learning Huo Yuan is staying at the hotel, Jiang Yulan uses her status as his fiancée to get a room key and finds him drugged and disoriented. He clings to her in his confused state, so she calms him and slips out alone to find an antidote.

As Jiang Yulan watches over the drugged Huo Yuan, he clings to her and murmurs the name of the Sanshui Divine Doctor before she calms him to sleep, hoping he forgets by morning. Elsewhere, the person who drugged him begs Mu Xueqing for help, admitting the act was done for her and her husband, and fears Huo Yuan now suspects the truth.

Roadside footage shows Huo Yuan's car suddenly losing control and plunging off a cliff, leaving only his driver dead inside amid signs of a struggle. Huo Yuan himself is not found in the wreck, and someone vows to bring him back personally, borrowing a gun before setting out to investigate.

The driver, coerced by threats against his family, dies after the staged crash, while a wounded Huo Yuan flees, leaving a trail of blood. The ambushers meant to finish him off have gone silent, and both hired killers and rescuers now comb the hills, each racing to find him first.

Jiang Yulan tracks down the wounded Huo Yuan in the hills and finds his head wound improperly bandaged, so she redresses it herself. Huo Yuan urges her to leave him behind rather than risk her own safety, but she refuses and insists she will get him out alive.

Old Master Huo confronts Huo Zhenhua and Mu Xueqing over an assassination attempt tied to Mu Xueqing's brother, warning he will donate the family fortune if either son dies. Meanwhile, Jiang Yulan pulls Huo Yuan through a dangerous gunshot wound, only for Gu Nuan to turn on her, accusing her of meddling and vowing retaliation.

Jiang Yulan stays by Huo Yuan's bedside through the night, and he presses her about why she risked herself to save him, their words laced with mutual testing. Old Master Huo arrives and revisits the assassination, pointing to Huo Zhenhua and Mu Xueqing, though a scapegoat's confession keeps them untouchable for now.

With Huo Yuan surviving the attack, Gu Nuan and her mother fear retaliation and decide to blame Jiang Yulan instead, scheming to hire a mercenary through the dark web to deal with her. Gu Nuan then feigns innocence in front of her in-law, insisting the Huo Yuan incident had nothing to do with her, while secretly plotting Jiang Yulan's removal.

During a family vacation, Gu Beiye notices Jiang Yulan is troubled and takes her to a mountain pool to cheer her up, their bond quietly deepening. The arrival of Huo Sili and Mu Xueqing disrupts the calm, and Gu Beiye leaves briefly to fetch water, leaving Jiang Yulan waiting alone.

A woman is seized and interrogated by unidentified captors who threaten her to reveal her true identity. Unshaken, she counters by asking whether a plane or a bullet would reach her first, leaving the standoff unresolved.

Jiang Yulan is held and questioned by mercenaries who admit they were only paid for the job, with the client's identity hidden behind a dark-web deal only a hacker could trace. Huo Yuan arrives in time to save her, and she brushes it off as nothing more than a tea mishap while privately suspecting someone. Mu Xueqing, hearing Huo Yuan returned unharmed, grows anxious that the mercenaries could be traced back to her.

Huo Yuan checks on Jiang Yulan after her kidnapping and gives her a phone with calling and location features so he can find her faster next time, vowing to make things right. After her discharge, he takes her to meet someone, and the name Mu Xueqing surfaces as they drive, hinting at trouble ahead.

Jiang Yulan traces her kidnapping back to Huo Zhenhua and has him seized in return. He denies hiring the mercenaries, but dark web IP records expose his lie. Mu Xueqing rushes in, offering a billion in compensation and the restored engagement to Huo Sili if Jiang Yulan agrees not to call the police.

Huo Yuan admits he knew Jiang Yulan was testing him about the hacker who helped her, and promises to stand by her no matter how many identities she hides. Mu Xueqing has been detained, and Huo Zhenhua dares not interfere since she holds his secrets. Huo Yuan wonders aloud whether their engagement will still count once they reclaim the Huo family's business.

With Mu Xueqing detained, Gu Nuan and Huo Sili realize only Jiang Yulan's withdrawal of the charges can save her. Huo Sili vows to persuade Jiang Yulan, and Gu Nuan visits her in person, invoking their family ties, but Jiang Yulan flatly refuses.

Old Master and Old Madam Gu pressure Gu Nuan to consider breaking off her engagement with Huo Sili to protect the family's reputation, while worrying over Jiang Yulan's feelings. Unable to agree, they devise a test: if Gu Nuan passes, Jiang Yulan must withdraw her lawsuit. Meanwhile, a new trade policy threatens the Gu family's business with bankruptcy.

As the new trade policy threatens the Gu family business, the family gathers to plan a response, and Jiang Yulan shows financial insight but is told to focus on her studies instead. Gu Beiye and Gu Nanjun also note how deeply Gu Nuan has invested herself in Huo family matters, raising quiet concerns about where her loyalties truly lie.

News of the Gu family's bankruptcy suddenly trends online, sparking panic among shareholders and a wave of negative press. Old Master Gu demands to know who leaked it, suspecting someone inside the family, as the tightened trade policy sends their stock price tumbling further.

After the Gu family's bankruptcy news spreads, Old Master Gu suspects Gu Nuan leaked it. Gu Beiye meets Huo Zhenhua to negotiate an investment to save the company, but Huo Zhenhua uses the crisis as leverage, demanding Jiang Yulan call off her engagement and threatening to hold Gu Beiye against his will if he refuses.

Gu Nuan is exposed for leaking the Gu family's bankruptcy to Huo Zhenhua, choosing to side with him to secure her own future. Old Madam Gu confronts her over the betrayal, while Huo Zhenhua pressures Gu Nuan to call Jiang Yulan and demand she withdraw her lawsuit immediately.

Huo Zhenhua kidnaps Jiang Yulan's mother and threatens her life to force Jiang Yulan into withdrawing her lawsuit. He pushes further, demanding Huo Yuan give up his inheritance rights as well. Cornered, Jiang Yulan agrees but quietly hints she already has a plan.

Huo Zhenhua pushes to strike Gu Nuan from the family register, while his mother tearfully apologizes to Jiang Yulan, who admits their bond may never be repaired. Believing Huo Yuan has given up his inheritance and left the country, Huo Zhenhua pressures the old master to sign over company shares, only to be publicly exposed for embezzlement and ousted.

Police arrest Huo Zhenhua outside the station, accusing him of poisoning his father, hiring a hitman against his brother, and embezzlement. Mu Xueqing is tricked into swallowing what she believes is poison, only to learn it was just candy, as video evidence against her is confirmed authentic. She collapses, realizing she has been completely betrayed.

After Huo Zhenhua and Mu Xueqing's arrest, Huo Yuan invites Jiang Yulan to the Huo household and hints that her word alone could help the Gu family through a stock crisis. Meanwhile Gu Nuan kneels outside pleading to be forgiven and to keep her match with Huo Sili, but Old Master and Old Madam Gu coldly strike her name from the family register.

With Gu Corp's stock crisis easing after a mystery buyer steps in, the family still needs top talent to secure its future. Gu Beiye and Gu Nanjun are stunned when Jiang Yulan manages to recruit renowned engineer Lu Guoyuan, forcing them to wonder just how much they still don't know about her.

The Gu brothers apologize to Jiang Yulan for misjudging her, and Old Madam Gu proposes combining her birthday banquet with the Huo engagement celebration. Huo Yuan and Huo Sili instead plan for Yulan to publicly call off the engagement that day, even as Huo Yuan admits he cannot let her go.

At Jiang Yulan's birthday banquet, Huo Yuan urges her to make an announcement everyone expects to end their engagement. Instead, she declares she is formally engaging to him and promises to try to love him. Huo Yuan vows to earn her love in return, sealing the once-doomed match in front of the guests.
