The Moment He Left the Mountain, His Fiancée Asked Him to Be Her Fake Husband

On his first day back from the mountains, Lin Chen's master reminds him of a betrothal arranged when he was eight. Before he can process it, his fiancée Xiaoxue intercepts him, desperate for him to pose as her boyfriend for a day to fend off wealthy suitor Wu Jiajun. He hesitates at her offer, but ends up dragged along anyway.

Lin Chen and Xiaoxue rehearse a cover story, claiming they met traveling last year and have been together a month, before arriving at her arranged meeting. A female relative confronts them, demanding to know why Xiaoxue never mentioned a boyfriend and suspecting he is merely an actor hired to handle the family.

At Wu Jiajun's family dinner, he mocks Lin Chen as a country bumpkin and a freeloader, demanding to know his background. Lin Chen refuses to back down, declaring that he and Xiaoxue are devoted to each other through life and death. Xiaoxue publicly confirms Lin Chen as her boyfriend, deepening the tension with Wu Jiajun's family.

At a family dinner, Wu Jiajun flaunts an expensive bottle of wine and mocks Lin Chen as a penniless freeloader. Lin Chen claims to be a doctor acquainted with the renowned physician Wen Yu'an, prompting Wu Jiajun to call Wen Yu'an on the spot to disprove him. The call only reaches a disconnected line, leaving Lin Chen's claim unresolved.

At the family dinner, Wu Jiajun imposes a three-minute countdown, threatening to humiliate Lin Chen and have Xiaoxue throw him out unless Wen Yu'an shows up to confirm his claim. Meanwhile, the esteemed Wen Yu'an decides to personally seek out Lin Chen based on nothing but a phone call, keeping the question of his true identity unresolved.

Wen Yu'an arrives in person and publicly confirms his friendship with Lin Chen, defusing Wu Jiajun's threat at the dinner. After Wen Yu'an leaves, Wu Jiajun still refuses to back down, mocking Lin Chen's medical skill and demanding an on-the-spot diagnosis to expose him.

Pressed to prove himself, Lin Chen diagnoses Wu Jiajun on the spot, pointing to a scar as evidence of an embarrassing hidden ailment that humiliates him in front of Xiaoxue. Wu An quietly abandons the match between his son and Xiaoxue. Furious, Wu Jiajun vows that Lin Chen will not survive three days in Pingjiang.

Xiaoxue's grandfather is gravely ill, a case even renowned physician Wen Yu'an could not cure. She begs Lin Chen to try, introducing him to her family as her boyfriend. A doctor warns that surgery carries a near-certain risk of failure, yet Lin Chen calmly insists the illness can still be treated.

Using the Returning-Life needle method, Lin Chen revives Xiaoxue's long-ailing grandfather with just two precise strikes. Recognizing the rare technique, the old man sends everyone else away to question Lin Chen alone about his name and background, hinting at something deeper.

Recognizing Lin Chen by his rare needle technique, the grandfather learns the truth: he and Xiaoxue are only pretending to be a couple. The old man then reveals a pendant tied to Lin Chen's past, offering it only if he truly marries Xiaoxue, leaving Lin Chen to weigh the offer.
