Come for Me, My Adopted Sister

At the birthday party, Sheila produces proof that she is the Winstons' biological daughter. She tallies Emma's twenty years of private school, riding, piano and designer labels item by item: five million, and if Emma can't pay, she'll pay with something else.

Emma calls her crazy and insists Joshua is the only one in her heart. Yet Sheila acts as if she's known her for years, reminding her that the five million accrues interest daily and that until it's paid, Emma is hers, then asks why Emma closed her eyes at the party.

Her parents and Joshua arrive, and it turns out that on her very first day home, Sheila landed a major investment for the family business on the brink of bankruptcy. Joshua asks whether the sisters were just kissing; Sheila says she was only blowing dust out of Emma's eye.

Emma grits her teeth and says it was just dust in her eye. Joshua asks Mr. Winston, David, for a loan and is turned down, then immediately gets a threat from his creditors: repay the gambling debt within eight hours or pay with his organs. At dinner, her parents tell Emma to learn from Sheila.

Restless at the dinner table, Emma excuses herself, but Sheila follows her in. She proposes a game: if Emma can stay quiet for three minutes, the five million is wiped out and Sheila will never touch her again; if she loses, Sheila leaves her mark.

Emma holds on, swearing she will never betray Joshua, but Sheila says that man isn't worth her love. Meanwhile, Joshua begs at the gambling table for another loan, and her parents recall how they lost Sheila years ago and adopted Emma.

Sheila covers for Emma with a story about a broken glass and even protects her in front of their parents. Emma's mind is in turmoil; she keeps telling herself she loves Joshua, then turns and pulls him in for a kiss.

Emma instinctively pulls away from Joshua. Sheila's men report to her, the "Godmother": Joshua is drowning in gambling debt, has already swindled nearly three million from the Winstons, and tonight plans to deliver Emma to a private auction. Sheila orders them to find the venue immediately.

Joshua fishes for whether Emma can still access the family money; when she says no, he keeps up the tender act. Emma's head aches and she drifts off, waking up at an underground auction as the night's final lot, with bidding starting at 800,000. Sheila's people have found the venue too.

Joshua openly admits he only got close to her to pay off his debts and sneers that she's nothing but an adopted daughter. As the auctioneers prepare to put Emma on display for the buyers, she cries out in despair, and Sheila arrives with her people and orders the room cleared.
