Series synopsis

Sixty years after founding empress Ma Cuilan fell in battle, she wakes in shock in the body of a condemned minister's daughter who bears her name! She forcefully puts the Eastern Palace's vicious servant Jinzhu in her place, only to unexpectedly meet Imperial Grandson Xiao Lang, who looks uncannily like her late husband. In the depths of her grief, she has only one thought: to see her own son Xiao Xian, gravely ill for many years. Through Prince Jing, Xiao Jue, she wins Xiao Lang's trust with a single line, "Watch the moon over the barren mountains and seek the dragon's shadow," and at last enters the inner palace to awaken the slumbering Xiao Xian. After that she advances step by step, brings the scheming princes to heel, resolves the misunderstanding with Prince Zhennan Xu Xiao, and exposes the collusion between officials and merchants at Fanlou, saving the common people from disaster. Ma Cuilan at last wins the love of all the people, and Qi An, who has quietly watched over her, chooses this moment to confess his feelings... Will he return to the capital with her? In the inner palace, how many earth-shattering secrets still wait for her to uncover?
