Episode 1 · Opening Hook & Encounter
The Mermaid and the Doomed Heir
Ariel Morgan, a mermaid living secretly on land, kicks a runaway stone ball to save a little girl and lands a job as personal bodyguard to Will Blackwood, the wealthy heir who lost the use of his legs in a crash after years of rescuing sea creatures from poachers. Bitter and confined to a wheelchair, Will has scheduled his own euthanasia in three months, and his desperate mother promises Ariel a fortune if she can make him want to live again. Fearless and hilariously unfamiliar with human customs, Ariel drags Will out of his dark room and through his old bucket list: wolves in the Arctic, sledding, a sports car with cut brakes and a skydive, while fending off his scheming ex-fiancée Victoria and her partner Damian. As Will discovers Ariel's scales and powers, he realizes she is the mermaid he once freed from a poaching boat. When Ariel is kidnapped for experiments, Will has to decide whether to fight for his own life as well as hers, and Ariel learns that healing him would cost her tail, her powers and her home beneath the sea forever.
