### Chapter 1: Prologue
Dante POV:
Rain. It always rains in this city when blood is about to be spilled.
I stand in the shadow of the Romano estate, the barrel of my pistol cooling in my palm. The wedding is tomorrow. Our wedding. A deal sealed in gold rings and lies.
My enemies will call it peace. I will call it ownership.
Through the tall windows, I see her; Elena Romano. The girl I'm supposed to protect. The pawn I'm supposed to claim. She's laughing at something her friend says, but even from here, I can see it doesn't reach her eyes.
I don't believe in fate, but I believe in the moment you see something you want and you take it.
I didn't ask for her. I didn't need her.
But the second she turns and looks at me like she knows exactly who I am and still refuses to look away I know.
She's mine.
The first time I speak to her will not be tomorrow in front of priests and witnesses. It will be now. Tonight. While her father still believes she's safe.
Because if there's one thing the Romanos have forgotten, it's that the Bratva doesn't make peace. We make promises. And I intend to keep mine. So I step out of the shadows, ignoring the guards who freeze when they see me.
I push open the glass door, slow and deliberate, until she's standing right in front of me, her breath hitching at the sight of the man she's been warned about her whole life. "Elena," I say, my voice low enough that only she can hear. Her chin tilts up a brave little thing. "You shouldn't be here."
I smile, just enough to show her this isn't a threat. It's a promise. "Oh, printsessa... I'm exactly where I'm meant to be." Tomorrow, she'll walk down the aisle for the sake of her family.
But tonight, she'll learn exactly what it means to belong to me.
