### Chapter 1: Chapter-1

That was the exact word the doctor used. My heart cracked in half.

“Are you sure?” I asked, wringing my hands. My paper nightgown crinkled.

“Yes, Luna Freya. I am very sorry.” His eyes were sympathetic. “But you are unable to have children.”

His words hit my stomach like a fist.

Barren? But how? No no no. This wasn’t happening. It couldn’t be.

I sat completely still, frozen in shock, as the floor fell out from under me.

I only went to the doctor because my mate, Alpha Ethan suggested it. Well, technically, it was Mira’s idea. She’d been worried about the rumors spreading through the pack. I’d heard them. They were vicious and derisive.

‘Freya is an unfit Luna. She can’t produce an heir. There’s something medically wrong with her!’

It stung, hearing the pack talk about me like that. But I swallowed it down and tried to ignore it. There was nothing wrong with me. These things take time. I can get pregnant.

That’s what I told myself.

“I really am very sorry, Luna Freya.”

I nodded absently at the doctor as I stepped down from the examination table. My knees felt like jelly. How was I going to tell Ethan? And today of all days! It was our third anniversary.

I left the hospital in a daze.

“What am I going to do?” I whispered as I wandered through the pack streets. The sun shone brightly. Birds sang. Children’s laughter echoed through the air.

It felt wrong. My world was falling apart and it was a beautiful day.

‘Tell him the truth,’ my wolf urged me. Her voice was calm and gentle. ‘Tell him that you’re the daughter of the Alpha King.’

I shook my head and bit my lip. How could I possibly do that? I’d been lying to Ethan for three years about my true identity. And now that I was barren, it would be even harder to tell him. My hand instinctively went to my barren stomach as tears pricked my eyes.

I’d come to Moonvalley Pack under false pretenses. Everyone in the pack thought I was an Omega. But I was actually the Alpha King’s daughter.

When I secretly found out that Ethan Whitmore was my mate three years ago at a party, I begged my father to let me marry him. My father refused.

“He’s beneath you and not a trustworthy man,” my father concluded. “He’ll just use you for your title and a political alliance.”

But I’d begged him until I was blue in the face. Eventually, he relented.

“Fine,” he sighed. His stern eyes locked on mine. “You can marry Ethan. On one condition. He cannot know your true identity. You will pretend to be an Omega. A nobody. That way, we will know his intentions are noble and not attached to your title. If, after three years, he still loved you and respected you, then I will accept him.”

So I married Ethan while he believed I was nothing more than a lowly Omega. Yet he honored our mate bond and made me his Luna. He loved and respected me just as he always had, even though Mira constantly found excuses to pull him away from me.

Today, those three years were finally over.

Ethan had proven his loyalty. My father would accept him now. Everything should have been perfect.

…Ethan yearned for an heir.

And I couldn’t give him one.

‘He’ll understand and help us to find a way,’ my wolf soothed. ‘He loves you. Just tell him the truth.’

Her words echoed in my mind. She was right. Ethan did love me.

We could get through this. Together.

The sun was warm on my face as I headed towards the packhouse. My steps became a little lighter. There was still hope. But as I got closer to the central square, I noticed a crowd had gathered.

“What’s this all about?” I asked, joining the back of the crowd.

“Alpha Ethan has an announcement,” a woman whispered to me, her eyes sparkling with anticipatory excitement.

An announcement? That was strange. Ethan hadn’t mentioned anything to me about an announcement.

I peeked through the throngs of people and saw Ethan standing on the stage. He was grinning from ear to ear, in a dark shirt rolled up at the cuffs.

“I have gathered you all here today because I have a very important announcement.” A hush fell over the crowd. All eyes locked on Ethan. “It is with great pride that I announce,” his voice brimmed with excitement.

His next words almost knocked me over.

“The Moonvalley Pack finally has an heir!”

The crowd erupted in applause. My stomach dropped.

My eyes scanned the stage in utter disbelief. And that’s when I saw her.

Mira Kane. The illustrious daughter of Chief Warrior Darius Kane. Darius was a formidable force and well-respected. As such, so was Mira.

My mind reeled. This wasn’t making sense.

But as Mira stepped onto the stage, dignified and graceful, I slowly understood. Ethan pulled her into his arms. Her thick auburn curls cascaded down her back. She was glowing.

I felt like I couldn’t swallow. My heart hammered in my chest. The entire pack was cheering. For them. For her.

“We only just found out today,” Ethan said. The crowd quieted down. My eyes landed on Mira’s hand, clamped in his. “But Mira is already four months along. Our heir is well on its way!” He leaned over and kissed Mira on the cheek.

Cheers erupted again. Mira tucked her hair behind her ear and smiled at the crowd. My cheeks burned crimson. I felt sick to my stomach. I couldn’t move. All I could do was watch this nightmare play out right before my eyes.

“To true mates!” someone bellowed from the crowd. “To Mira and Ethan!”

My stomach clenched. All around me, everyone was whispering. A woman side-eyed me. I knew what they were saying.

‘Thank the Moon Goddess Ethan finally came to his senses. We never understood what he saw in that lowly Omega. She was never fit to be Luna. She couldn’t even produce an heir!’

The crowd scorned me. They gushed over Mira. The humiliation was so visceral I could hardly breathe. Unable to withstand the mocking stares a moment longer, I made my way through the crowd.

“Ethan?” I stood on the ground, looking up at the stage. My voice trembled. “Is it true?”

He looked down at me, his expression stoic. Beside him, Mira smiled smugly and gripped his hand.

“How could you?” I whispered. My tongue felt thick. My throat was tight. “How could you betray me like this?!”

He brought his eyes back to mine. Our gaze held for a beat. Behind me, the crowd snickered. I searched his face for an apology, or guilt, or regret. But all I found was indignation.

“These things happen, Freya,” he said softly. “I trust you will take good care of Mira and our unborn child, right?”

Logan’s POVI waited until Freya was out of earshot before laughing, and even then I tried to keep it quiet."She’s different," Gavin said."No," I said, sitting down at my desk. "She always used to leave the room like that whenever I brought up something she didn’t want to talk about. She’d just walk out mid-sentence and pretend she had something to do.”"Where did she sleep last night?" Gavin asked."Our room,” I replied. "I’m staying in the guest room down the hall.”Gavin frowned and said, “I’m sorry. I know that was difficult to accept.”"That was my decision, not hers. I want her to be comfortable and not feel pressured,” I explained.Gavin considered that for a moment, his gaze softening. "I get it. It’s just… I saw what it did to you, all those years waiting. And now she’s here, you’re still holding back. Aren’t you scared she’ll never remember if you don’t push at all?"The question hit a sore spot because, of course, I was scared. I was terrified that Freya wouldn’t ever tru

Freya’s POVLogan let go of my face, and I jumped back so quickly I bumped into the desk. The guy standing in the doorway was already trying to leave."Gavin," Logan said. "Stay where you are."He stepped back in, staring at the floor. "Sorry. I should've knocked.""Nothing was happening," I said too fast and too loud, instantly embarrassed. They both looked at me. Logan was two feet in front of me, his hands still half up, and I held onto my desk like it was going somewhere, and I heard how that sounded about a second too late.He was Logan's second-in-command and Elise's mate. Someone told me that yesterday. I couldn't remember anything else about him, which frustrated me."What did you come up for?" Logan asked him."This." Gavin reached into his jacket and took out an envelope. "It came up from the gate an hour ago. I nearly left it on your desk, and then I thought better of it."Logan looked at the front of the envelope. His whole expression changed. Logan looked suddenly hopeful

Freya’s POVThe first thing I noticed was that I liked it here.It felt strange. Every room looked like I had chosen it myself. The colors, the heavy curtains, the low furniture, and the reading chair in the sunny corner were all things I would pick. Even the hallways felt right. I waited for something to feel wrong, but everything fit.“Who decorated?” I asked, glancing around the room.“You chose the main rooms, the colors, where everything goes. You spent your first year here rearranging everything,” Logan explained. “You said it was no longer a lonely bachelor’s pad.”“Was it?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.“Yes, you were right,” Logan agreed, giving me a small smile. He led me out the back and into the rose garden. This was where I had hidden when I first woke up.“This too?” I asked, looking at the garden.“Yes,” Logan confirmed, staying back and letting me walk ahead. "You once told me your father’s garden at Silvermoon was the only place you could really think. You wanted to ma

Freya’s POVAfter breakfast, we walked to the border to say goodbye to everyone. The cars were packed and most of the Alphas had already said goodbye. I waited until Kael came over before I spoke.“I want to come with you.”Everything stopped."To Silvermoon," I said, since nobody else spoke. "I missed his funeral. I think going to his grave might help me remember. Silvermoon is the only place I can recall. All my other memories are blurred or gone. If my memories come back, it’ll be there."Kael looked at Vivian. “It wasn’t…it wasn’t like that, Freya. I don’t think…”“Then what happened to him? How did he die? Why does no one want to tell me?” I asked.“Not yet,” Kael said, then sighed and rubbed the back of his neck. “You need to stay here in Doomfang.”“Why?”"Because you’re taking things too fast,” Kael replied. “I know you want to get your life back on track, but I’m worried about what will happen if you rush things. You need to take it slow and not overexert yourself.”“I’m not

Freya’s POVI opened my mouth, but no words came out.I couldn't tell a five-year-old the truth. I don't know your father. I just met him this morning. He's a stranger who's been kind to me, but I can't be alone in a room with him at night.Logan got there first."Your mum's been asleep for a long time," he said. "She needs peace and quiet to get better. It's easier to rest when she's alone.""Oh," Nyla said.I nodded like it was obvious.Elian wasn't having it."But that's not fair," he said. "When I can't sleep, you lie down with me, and then I fall asleep.""That's different,” Logan said."How is it different?" Elian asked. "She can't remember anything. If she's with you, maybe she'll remember sooner. You're her mate. That's how it works."He stood there looking up at me, waiting for me to agree with him, because he had worked it out and it was obvious and all I had to do was say yes."I still get bad headaches," I told him. "I need some time to get used to everything, and then we'

Freya’s POVEveryone at the table was watching as I took a bite.No one tried to hide it. Nora stood with her hands folded, the girl next to her froze, and even Elise stopped talking, which was always a rarity.I took the spoon from Logan and then placed it in my mouth. The stew tasted great."Nora, this is amazing," I said, and everyone visibly relaxed.Nora sighed in relief. “Thank the Goddess your taste buds aren’t ruined.” She then hurried back to the kitchen, with the girl following. They returned with drinks for everyone and a plate of sweets. After that, they kept refilling drinks any time my cup was half empty. The room became noisy again as everyone talked to each other instead of just focusing on me. I finally felt like I could eat in peace even though I still noticed a few people staring at me. All I had to do was keep it together until I could get to my room."Connor’s not here tonight. He left with Arya earlier,” Logan said as he started up a conversation."Connor? Alpha

### Chapter 2: Chapter-2

“No,” I shook my head, taking a step back.

My mind reeled. I couldn’t believe what was happening. Mira was pregnant with Ethan’s baby. He expected me to look after her?

And he’d just announced it to the entire pack!

“This isn’t right,” I stammered. My cheeks flushed. My heart raced.

“Freya.” Ethan’s tone was low and dangerous. “Show some decorum.”

My emotions were all over the place. Hurt. Disbelief. I felt like the rug had been pulled out from under me.

“Need I remind you that I am your Luna?” I asked boldly, lifting my chin.

“Freya.” Ethan stepped toward me, lowering his voice. “You are my Luna, and that will never change. But you are unfit for the role. The doctor told me you’re barren. You cannot provide an heir for the pack. What else do you expect me to do?”

A wave of gasps rose from the crowd behind me. I wished I could disappear. Now everyone knew I couldn’t give the pack an heir. Their cold, judgmental stares burned into me.

“You betrayed me first,” I said. Anguish took hold of me. My entire world was collapsing. Tears brimmed in my eyes. But I would be damned if I was going to let them fall. I blinked back the tears and bit my lip.

“This is all my fault,” Mira said suddenly. She took a step forward. “He didn’t betray you, Luna Freya. It was…an accident. A mistake. It never should have happened. I can see how much this hurts you.” Her voice was gentle, sincere even. “So…” She inhaled a long, dramatic breath. “I will do the right thing and leave the pack as soon as the heir is born.”

He looked at her with tenderness. My heart was clenched. Mira was openly crying. So he folded her into his arms and assured her that she didn’t need to leave.

“Alpha Ethan is right,” someone said from the crowd. “You should be named Luna, Mira. The Moon Goddess made a mistake. Clearly, you are more fit than…” she cast me a derisive look. “Than her.”

The crowd quickly agreed. They all showed their support for Mira. Mira wiped the tears from her eyes and smiled shyly at the crowd.

“Really?” she asked. “Do you…do you mean it? You want me to stay?”

“Of course,” Ethan soothed. “You’ve done nothing wrong. You’re giving the pack an heir. No one wants you to leave.”

Her face broke out into a victorious smile.

My blood boiled. I stood there like a fool as the pack showered Mira with praise. I didn’t deserve this humiliation. In the blink of an eye, the entire pack had turned against me. And Ethan just stood there, doing nothing to stop it.

So, without another word, I turned on my heel and stormed off.

It wasn’t until I was safely within the confines of my own bedroom that I finally broke down. Tears streamed freely down my face. Sobs shook my body.

‘Breathe, Freya,” my wolf tried to soothe me. ‘They’re only siding with Mira because they think she’s more noble than you. They think you’re just an Omega. Just tell them who you really are!’

“Not now,” I said, my voice raspy.

I went to the bathroom and splashed cold water over my face. My eyes were red and puffy. My mascara was smudged black around my eyes. I was a hot mess.

‘Just listen,’ she urged gently as I dabbed my face with a plush towel. ‘You’re the Alpha King’s daughter. If they only—’

“Enough.” My voice came out sharper than I intended. I sighed, lowering the towel. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to snap at you. I know you’re only trying to help. But it won’t change anything…”

I shook my head. “I’m barren. That’s all they care about now. Mira is… she’s pregnant. She’s giving them exactly what they want. An heir.”

Just then, there was a knock on the door. It was my maid, Nora. She had an urgent look on her face.

“Luna Freya,” she said. “You must come quickly. It’s the guards. They’re replacing all the furniture.”

As we scurried along the corridor, Nora glanced over her shoulder. “They’re moving everything. The couches. The tables. Even the curtains. I tried to stop them. But they said it was Alpha Ethan’s orders.”

“That can’t be right,” I said. Why would the guards be taking all the furniture? I’d chosen the furniture myself when I became Luna.

But as we turned the corner into the main living room, I balked.

Sure enough, the room was half-empty.

“What is going on here?” I demanded. The guards paused and looked at me.

“Alpha Ethan’s orders,” one of them said coldly. “We’re to remove all the furniture by sundown tonight.”

“Stop it. Put that down,” I pointed. A guard was pulling the curtains right off their rod.

They didn’t stop though. Instead, they snickered. “The room is being redone.”

“Redone by who?” I snapped.

I turned around. Mira waltzed into the room gracefully, a smug smile on her face. She stopped at the curtains and fingered them, her back turned to me.

“I’ve never been a fan of magenta,” she said snidely. “It’s such a…depressing color, don’t you think?” She turned to face me, batting her eyelashes innocently.

“Leave the curtains alone,” I hissed, lifting my chin. “By order of your Luna.”

“Hm,” Mira said. She furrowed her brow. “It’s just that I need to remove anything that affects my emotions for the sake of my baby. So everything here has to be replaced.” She swept her hand over the room. Then she locked eyes with me. Her eyes were callous.

Her subtext was clear. She was including me in the list of things being replaced.

I was just about to snap back when Ethan entered the room.

“Ethan,” Mira greeted, rushing towards him. She adjusted his shirt collar like his true mate. “Freya is interfering with the remodeling.”

“Ethan, she’s trying to replace everything,” I started. But Ethan held up his hand to silence me.

“The guards are doing what I ordered them to do,” he said bluntly.

“You can’t be serious?” I said, my eyes wide. “But why? Ethan, what’s going on?” The guards continued stripping the room. There was barely anything left.

“Luna Freya isn’t being very welcoming,” Mira told him with a fake pout. “If I’m going to live here, then I should have some say in the furniture. You promised me that, didn’t you?”

My blood froze. My eyes flitted between Mira and Ethan.

“What did she just say?” The color drained from my face.

“Mira is pregnant with my heir,” Ethan said flatly. “It only makes sense that she moves into the packhouse.”

“You mean…” I swallowed hard. My next words came out as a whisper. “Mira’s going to be living with us?”

Logan’s POVI waited until Freya was out of earshot before laughing, and even then I tried to keep it quiet."She’s different," Gavin said."No," I said, sitting down at my desk.
